Some questions to ponder and discuss:

View the link providing more information and then consider how close to the actual historical documentation is this story?

What do you think about MISHA? As you get further in the book do your feelings towards him change or stay the same?

What historical factors do you think have affected MISHA over the time frame of his youth to his elderly years when he is telling the story to his grand-daughter.?

When MISHA states early in the novel that: "Truth is one of the 3 values that enable America to save itself" - what do you think he means in this?

Why do you think that he recognizes this saving power of truth finally, and WHY do you think that he is unable to tell the truth?

Do you think if MISHA told the truth, it would make his salvation possible?
